The Story Behind the Photo #3: Great Sand Dunes Sunset

Back in August 2010, I did a last minute road trip to check off state #49 from my list--New Mexico (the only one left for me is Hawaii). I flew in and out of Colorado, and chased a storm down through the incredible Great Sand Dunes National Park (on my way to a motel located in a drive-in movie theatre). I got there right around sunset, and then shot this photo. The sand dunes themselves are in the distance, and have an unusual dark color because of the rain storm that just passed through. More photos here, including another I shot a few minutes earlier also made it into the top 20.

Note: This is the next in a series I'm doing on my photos with a crowdsourced ranking.  You can see all 20 of the photos here.
