Since 2004, I've been designing the sound system for the Tribeca Film Festival outdoor "Drive In" film series (pictures from last year here). It's a free, and fun event that has become a tradition, this year using over 90 loudspeakers to distribute sound over the World Financial Center plaza. This year, the event has expanded to include the premier of the entire film festival--feature Cameron Crowe's The Union, featuring a live performance by Elton John and other special guests.
The opening night with Elton requires a wristband; details about distribution should be the Tribeca site soon. The other three shows are free with lots of good seats. Fame runs on Thursday, April 21; the premiere of the new documentary When the Drum is Beating runs Friday, April 22, and The Muppets take Manhattan on Saturday, April 23. Details here.
If you come to any of the shows, be sure and stop by the console and say hello!

Hi John. Funny I should come across your page here. I have been stressing out because I have a group of LaGuardia School of the Arts Alumni that have been asked to come sing before the screening of the movie Fame and our biggest issue/fear/reason for loss of sleep last night has been the sound system. We have a small choir of about 12 people and a soloist. Obviously everyone is jazzed about Elton John being there on the night before - and that is extremely appropriate. But my group feels like they will be lost in the audio sauce as a result. (insert sad face). Please reassure me so I can reassure them.
And yes, you can bet I'll be stopping by the booth as you requested. LOL!
(I can't believe I just stumbled across your page while looking for a site to use for directions for my friends.)
Break a leg tonight!
