Star-Quad Cables and Double-Blind Testing

I try to avoid debates on the internets, but I got sucked into one (along with Bob McCarthy) over at the Live Sound International Magazine section of Pro Sound Web on star quad cables and (mostly) test procedures.  You can see all the fun in the comments section of this article.

They don't really make things sound better, but they sure will reduce interference. Just try running them next to a power tranformer or some with strong magnetic fields. Then compare them to standard mic cables. :)

I take articles on PSW with a grain of salt. So often it seems that they try to cover really broad topics with short, superficial, opinionated articles. I'm a sucker for flashy headlines, but with PSW I'm often disappointed in the content. Maybe they think real testing would make them the AES Journal or that exposing marketing strategies would alienate their advertisers.
Here's a good video I saw recently. You may have seen it.

Nathan: Mark's piece actually appeared in print in Live Sound International first (where I saw it), and then online in the LSI section of PSW...

And as for that video, I was at that session! (last AES show).
