Busy Weekend

Friday I worked on the bus up in Newburgh, and then stayed up in Harriman state park at the Sebago Canoe Club cabin.  Saturday, for the first time, I paddled the Mongaup (Class II+) river.  As an experiment, I strapped my little helmet cam onto my bow, and got some cool video:

Unfortunately, at lunch time I went to check the tightness of the strap holding the camera on and snapped it!  So I missed the second half of the river, which was way more intense than the first half. I was a bit nervous going down, but I stayed upright the whole way and it was really fun.  After that, I went to the AMC paddler's picnic out in the Delaware Water Gap, and then headed back to Brooklyn in time for the Hal Willner tribute at Celebrate Brooklyn.

It's been a busy week, beside work on Wednesday I stopped by the Secret Science Club event the Union Hall was sponsoring in Dumbo, but the waterfalls were more interesting than the bands they had playing:

Thursday I got all access passes to the Black Keys at McCarren Pool (the photo is Tapes n Tapes).

Today, I'm catching up on everything getting ready for (finally) vacation...

Hi John -- The Mongaup is my favorite river, especially now that there are scheduled runs! I enjoyed your video and am inspired to get a little plastic case for my Flip Video camera. (I'll have to figure out how to attach it to me or the boat.) Come back for a 2 barrel run on the Mongaup - if we get another one this year. A lot of fun.
